at Monday, August 22, 2016
Olsen was sworn into office on August 3 to fill the seat vacated by former State Representative Ron Sandack. Olsen grew up in the 81st District and attended local public schools. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011, where he earned degrees in Finance & Management. His professional background is in the field of ethics and compliance for the commodities trading industry.
“My first priority is shaping my legislative agenda to effectively represent the district and lead important reforms for the state,” said Olsen. “I look forward to meeting with my constituents so I can learn about the issues that are important to them. These conversations will definitely help shape my agenda in Springfield.”
For the remaining months of the 99th General Assembly, Olsen will be serving on three key House education committees that deal with important issues such as college access/affordability, K-12 curriculum policies, and the critical issue of fair and equitable funding for schools. He will also serve on the Judiciary-Criminal, Public Utilities, Renewable Energy & Sustainability and Public Private Partnerships committees.
In addition to the committee appointment areas, pension reform and improving Illinois' business climate are also priorities. “Fair and constitutional pension reform must be a top priority for every lawmaker if we are ever to put Illinois on a path of future financial stability, and I am excited to engage in that debate in our state’s capitol,” Olsen said. “I also look forward to filing meaningful legislation that will make Illinois more business-friendly so we can grow jobs and our economy.”
The 81st District is located predominantly in DuPage County, with a small portion stretching into Will County. The district includes portions of Bolingbrook, Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle, Naperville, Westmont and Woodridge.
