Rep. Olsen Lauds Bill that Improves Student Transportation Services at Lower Cost for Taxpayers

The House of Representatives recently approved HB 261 in a unanimous vote. This legislation will allow schools to save money by providing rental or mortgage assistance to homeless students as opposed to providing transportation to and from school to these students. The bill is also a tool to keep students enrolled in their “school of origin” even if they do not have permanent housing or are “temporarily” living outside of the school’s attendance area. HB 261 is now awaiting a hearing before the Senate’s Education Committee.

State Representative David S. Olsen was a co-sponsor and strong supporter of HB 261, and spoke in favor of the bill when it was presented on the floor of the House. You can watch his floor comments here.
