New Fiscal Year, Still No Budget

As another fiscal year begins, the State of Illinois remains without a budget. Despite ten days in special session, the Illinois House and Senate failed to produce an agreement to move the state out of its fiscal crisis, and both the House and Senate met today to keep negotiations going. Speaker Michael Madigan also announced on the House floor today that lawmakers will return to session tomorrow, Sunday, July 2.

State Representative David S. Olsen (R-Downers Grove) released the following statement this afternoon:

“I am disheartened that negotiations have yet to bring forward a vote on a budget. Time has officially run out, and I’m disappointed that no budget has been voted upon nor agreed by the fiscal deadline. I remain in Springfield, and am committed to working to make this right for the people of Illinois.”
